What's
Going on at TSR!
The
Supply Room Companies is SWaM Certified
On Aug. 23, 2007, The Supply Room Companies
proudly announced its certification by the
Commonwealth of Virginia’s Department
of Minority Business Enterprise as a woman-owned-and-operated
business. All state agencies’ procurement
through The Supply Room Companies qualify
as tier-one, WBE purchase dollars when they
file mandatory reports on their participation
with SWaM-certified businesses.
By a 2006 executive order
from Gov. Tim Kaine, "For Virginia
to remain competitive we must assure that
all businesses and owners have an equal
opportunity to share in state procurement."
The order mandates a 40 percent goal of
purchases from SWaM-certified vendors such
as The Supply Room Companies. The SWaM program,
administered by the Department of Minority
Business Enterprise (DMBE), aims to enhance
business opportunities for small, women-
and minority-owned businesses, and to ensure
a level playing field for all small businesses.
TSR has qualified,
as a small business for a number of years,
but became a woman-owned business over a
year ago. The Supply Room Companies’
SWaM certification is a great way for our
state agency customers, who purchase from
our company under commodity office supplies
and toner contract #6150402-50, to meet
their obligation under the SWaM mandate.
This is another example of how, every day
and in every way, The Supply Room Companies
is striving to “Deliver the Difference”
to our customers.
Our
Environmental Commitment:
TSRC, Inc takes its environmental responsibilities
seriously, since as Virginia’s largest
independent office supplies dealer, we sell
many products that can wisely be recycled
to take the load off Mother Earth. Our office
supplies assortment offers a broad spectrum
of recyclable products and business supplies
through vendor relationships with manufacturers
like Marcal, Proctor and Gamble, Ampad,
Smead and Tops.
Our
internal operations are also geared towards
efficient use of resources, and supporting
green initiatives wherever possible. Among
these initiatives we recycle the following
waste internally:
We
generate 250 tons of cardboard waste annually
from our furniture and office products divisions,
which is all collected and sent to a recycling
plant in Madison, Virginia.
Plastic
packaging and wrapping material has recently
been added to our collection and recycling
program and hope to generate 8 tons annually.
TSR
has a complete white paper reclamation program
for our office staff, which recycles about
11 tons of material per year;
Waste
wood from pallets, shipping materials, furniture
remanufacturing and other sources is collected
at the rate of approximately 1 tractor trailer-loads
a month or 40 tons per year that would
otherwise go to a landfill.
Finally,
The Supply Room Companies sends 60 tons
of scrap metal annually to a recycler in
our hometown of Ashland, Virginia, for disposal.
This includes leftover material from manufacturing,
damaged metal products, computers, old metal
assets, handling equipment, etc.
Through
our proactive efforts in waste management
and reclamation of usable materials, over
400 tons of material would simply end
up being added to a landfill.
TSR
believes in doing its part to help the environment.
We even pick up our customers’ used
printer toner cartridges.
Richmond
Magazine's "Great Places to Work"
What does The Supply Room Companies have
in common with CarMax, Philip Morris USA
and Genworth Financial?
In
its November, 2007 cover story, TSR was
included as one of the 15 best companies
to work for in the Richmond area.
In
“Great Places to Work – 15 that
make employees smile,” the magazine
surveyed over 450 area companies, with a
panel of area experts in human resources
and management evaluating the contenders
in six categories — family-friendly
environment, employee development, compensation,
diversity, insurance and special perks.
The
magazine noted that TSR has for three consecutive
years been named to the national Companies
that Care Honor Roll, for businesses that
have created a respectful work environment
and standards of ethical behavior.
Among
our company’s achievements, Richmond
Magazine cited TSR’s:

The
New The JumpCart System
The JumpCart System, residing
in an easy-to-use matchbox-sized scanner,
is the physical link between printed catalogs,
direct marketing promotions and an eCommerce
website. Instead of filling out and faxing
order forms or phoning in orders, customers
use a key fob-like scanner to scan items
in a catalog or direct marketing promotion
or to scan UPC/EAN codes from product packages.
When all desired items have been scanned,
the scanner is plugged into a PC via a serial
or USB port, and the scan is transmitted
to the JumpCart server, where it is
translated and formatted before forwarding
to the dealers existing eCommerce system.
Within seconds, the customer sees a completed
shopping cart ready for approval. To learn
more, please contact your Supply Room representative.
