On Aug. 23, 2007, The Supply Room Companies proudly announced its certification by the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Department of Minority Business Enterprise as a woman-owned-and-operated business. All state agencies’ procurement through The Supply Room Companies qualify as tier-one, WBE purchase dollars when they file mandatory reports on their participation with SWaM-certified businesses.

By a 2006 executive order from Gov. Tim Kaine, "For Virginia to remain competitive we must assure that all businesses and owners have an equal opportunity to share in state procurement." The order mandates a 40 percent goal of purchases from SWaM-certified vendors such as The Supply Room Companies. The SWaM program, administered by the Department of Minority Business Enterprise (DMBE), aims to enhance business opportunities for small, women- and minority-owned businesses, and to ensure a level playing field for all small businesses.

TSR has qualified, as a small business for a number of years, but became a woman-owned business over a year ago. The Supply Room Companies’ SWaM certification is a great way for our state agency customers, who purchase from our company under commodity office supplies and toner contract #6150402-50, to meet their obligation under the SWaM mandate.
